Diwali, a festival of lights is one of the biggest celebrations in India. The festival is celebrated in various forms throughout the country with crackers, sweets and get-togethers being at the core of the festivities. However, during these times, we often overlook as to how our health can get affected during certain activities which we undertake.

1. Eat Healthy!
One of the central food items of Diwali are the sweets and ghee-laden consumables. However, these items contain a very high amount of calories which aren’t good for health. For a healthier option, go for low-calorie sweets, and fruits. It is not only a healthy option for yourself but consider gifting the same to relatives so that they can also celebrate a healthy Diwali.
2. Always Hydrate!
One of best ways to prevent post-Diwali health concerns is to drink plenty of water and keep oneself hydrated. Water cleanses the body of all germs and toxic waste materials while providing energy during the festivities.
3. NO To Crackers!
This is a tough one isn’t it? If one has to imagine Diwali, crackers are the first thing that will probably come to mind. However, the smoke from burning crackers are a big source of pollution in India, a country which is anyway plagued with the issue of increased pollution for quite some years. Try and spend a cracker-less Diwali. But, if that’s too much to bear, the least you can do is wear masks to cover the mouth and nose to avoid getting diseases.
4. Easy On The Alcohol!
Alcoholic drinks are a part and parcel of Diwali celebrations much like the ghee-laden sweets we talked about before. If one cannot go for a non-alcoholic Diwali, then limiting the consumption is the next best step which can be taken. Additionally, do not mix alcohol with juices and other aerated drinks which can result in increased weight.
5. Supervise For Safety!
Children must be under strict supervision by adults especially during bursting the crackers. Apart from this, they must be made to wear safety apparel which can save them from the flying sparks of the crackers, and also prevent them from inhaling the smoke.
6. A Loud BANG!
Crackers are associated with not only excessive smoke but loud noises as well. In fact, the sound can get so deafening that it can lead to hearing impairments. Thus, to avoid such a happening, wear earplugs while bursting crackers.
7. Don't skip leg day!
Festivals are quite useful as they can be good excuses to skip exercise routines and indulge in some unhealthy food habits. However, this is the exact reason as to why one should not stop exercising during Diwali. Try and make sometime for running, stretching or doing whatever activity you are into so that your weight and health are in check.
